Privatizing Santorum -- Most Important Election of 2006

I've been saying it for a few months now, most recently to Richard Cranium on the phone just 30 minutes ago. I'm happy to find that some Republicans agree with me.

The new Republican Party Chairman, Ken Mehlman, tells a group of conservatives that Rick Santorum, two-term Senator from Pennsylvania and a member of the Senate GOP Leadership, is in the President’s top priority 2006 senatorial race. Sara Taylor, the new White House Political Director, tells a conservative audience that the President has no better friend than Rick Santorum and the President intends to do whatever is necessary to help him win a third term. The Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial [Campaign] Committee, Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-NC), tells a business group that Rick Santorum is a top priority for the Committee and pleads for financial help for that expensive big-state campaign.

What do you think is the amount of money spent on this election? I'm going out on a limb here, and guess that the 527 organizations will hit the state of Pennsylvania hard. If this 2006 election spends less that $100 million, I'll be surprised.

They have to spend that much on the Republican side, because Santorum is going to be on the defensive concerning the war, his Pennsylvania residency, the minimum wage, etc.

And we're going to help take him down.
