GOP Slime Machine in Full Operation

Is your district represented by a GOP congressman? Does your state have one or more GOP senators? It's time to make some noise.

There is absolutely no excuse for this slime, particularly from a campaign that supports two men (Bush and Cheney) who went out of their way to avoid any brush with conflict during the Vietnam war. Every decent person in America, every elected official (regardless of political stripe) needs to condem this kind of slime in the presidential election.

Honor is not a negotiable commodity in a political campaign.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Sen. John McCain, a former prisoner of war in Vietnam, called an ad criticizing John Kerry's military service "dishonest and dishonourable" and urged the White House today to condemn it as well.

"It was the same kind of deal that was pulled on me," McCain said in an interview with The Associated Press, referring to his bitter Republican primary fight with President Bush.

The 60-second ad features Vietnam veterans who accuse the Democratic presidential nominee of lying about his decorated Vietnam War record and betraying his fellow veterans by later opposing the conflict.

"When the chips were down, you could not count on John Kerry," one of the veterans, Larry Thurlow, says in the ad.

The ad, scheduled to air in a few markets in Ohio, West Virginia and Wisconsin, was produced by Stevens, Reed, Curcio and Potham, the same team that produced McCain's ads in 2000.
Again, I recommend that you contact any of your federal level representatives who are Republicans, and demand that they condem this advertisement and any other such slander-based advertising during the campaign.

Also, you might wish to let Stevens, Reed, Curcio, and Potholm know how you feel about their slime tactics. Just sayin'. Not that it will make any difference. These are the same scuzbuckets who produced the infamous Bush I "Tank" advertisement with Michael Dukakis. I'd bet lunch money they were also in on the Willie Horton thing at Lee Atwater's behest. These guys are pros, in a Joe McCarthy kind of way.

Update, 8/5/04, 6:40PM:

From AP: McCain, chairman of Bush's campaign in Arizona, later said the Bush campaign has denied any involvement and added, "I can't believe the president would pull such a cheap stunt."

White House spokesman Scott McClellan declined to condemn the ad.
Ok, so what's it gonna be, Sen. McCain? You "can't believe" these dickweeds would stoop this low? They jam it up your ass four years ago, and you can't believe it?? And now you're shilling for them in your own state?

Sir, if you have one shred of decency in your bought-and-sold body, I expect to see reports of your resigning your Chairmanship of the Arizona Bush campaign tomorrow.

Otherwise, you'e just mouthing bullshit, and you have no honor left, sir.

This is where the rubber meets the road. Put up or STFU.
