Did Bush and Rummy Know about Prison Abuse

It is hard to figure how they couldn't, given the reports and such in both the Army investigation and on the Senate Floor by Bingaman. Thanks to SLATE we have a very interesting chronology of events and Bush, McClelland, Rumsfeld, Condi statements. I like this one, four days after the New Yorker report was published, by George himself.
"Because we acted, torture rooms are closed, rape rooms no longer exist, mass graves are no longer a possibility in Iraq."—Bush, remarks at "Ask President Bush" event, Michigan, May 3, 2004Evidently the Bush gang wasn't going to react to this Prison abuse until the public reaction grew too much to bear. Typical of them -- governing by polling?

Please spit. Let it out!
